The Midwife Center for Birth & Women’s Health is southwestern Pennsylvania’s only licensed and accredited freestanding birth center. We offer primary gynecological care, prenatal care and childbirth in a warm and supportive birth center. Our goal is to provide safe and satisfying care that is personalized to meet the needs of you and your family. Our staff is guided by the philosophy that a woman should be in control of her own health care, including her birth experience.
We accept the following payment methods for primary gynecological, prenatal and childbirth care. Learn more on our Insurance & Payment page.
– Most PA medical assistance plans, including UPMC for You, Gateway and United Community Plan
– Most local and national private insurance plans, including UPMC, Highmark*, United and Aetna
– If you do not have insurance, we can assist you in applying for medical assistance. If you do not qualify for medical assistance you may be eligible for sliding-scale care. The Midwife Center also offers payment plans.
*If you have Highmark insurance and are pregnant, please read our Insurance & Payment page.
Our home-like facility is conveniently located on Penn Avenue in the Strip District. The first floor of our Center houses three nature-themed birth suites, each with its own large bathroom with a Jacuzzi, and our family kitchen. Upstairs is a large waiting room, three exam rooms and administrative offices. Our extensive video and book library is available here as well.
Care at our facility is provided by Certified Nurse-Midwives (CNMs) who are registered nurses with additional education in midwifery. As all CNMs, our midwives are certified by examination through the American College of Nurse-Midwives or the American College of Nurse-Midwives Certification Council and licensed by the Pennsylvania Board of Medicine.
We regret that we cannot answer individual medical questions or schedule appointments via email. If you feel that you may have a medical emergency call the office at 412-321-6880 or 911 immediately.
