Since 1982, the certified nurse-midwives, nurse practitioner and nurses of The Midwife Center for Birth & Women’s Health (TMC) have cared for thousands of clients and their families. Our providers take care of clients of all ages, and provide primary gynecological care, prenatal care, childbirth care, breastfeeding support and more. Our staff has helped to bring more than 5,000 babies into the world.
Being the only freestanding, licensed birth center option in Southwestern Pennsylvania, we are licensed with the PA Department of Health and are nationally accredited with the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers (CABC).
Our current birth center at 2825 Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh’s Strip District neighborhood opened in 2003 in an historic turn-of-the-century home. The first baby born in this center arrived on Wednesday, August 6th, 2003. Read “Midwife practice gets a new home” from January 2003 on the Post-Gazette website.
TMC is a private, non-profit practice, which is supported in part by fees for services, the United Way Contributor’s Choice program and other workplace giving programs, and tax-deductible contributions from individuals like you, businesses and foundations. TMC accepts most private and public insurance plans and is a member organization of Adagio Health, which enables us to provide gynecological care to clients for free or on a sliding fee scale based on income and family size.
