Imagine arriving at our birth center in labor to a candlelit room, the Jacuzzi full of warm water, music playing softly in the background. At The Midwife Center, you can give birth surrounded by your family in a home-like setting and avoid medical interventions such as IV’s, episiotomies and cesarean section. Our cesarean rate is about a third of the national average, which is over 30%. Our midwives’ goal is to provide you with care that is both safe and sensitive for you and your baby in a nurturing environment.
The Midwife Center is southwestern Pennsylvania’s only licensed and accredited freestanding birth center. We are located at 2825 Penn Ave in Pittsburgh’s historic Strip District. Our midwives and nurse practitioner provide primary gynecological care, prenatal care and childbirth services to clients of all ages. We accept most private insurance plans, public/medical assistance plans, and clients who need/wish to self-pay for services.
The first floor of our turn-of-the-century house has three nature-themed birth suites, each with its own large bathroom (with a Jacuzzi) and a Queen size bed. Also on the first floor is our family kitchen. On the second floor, we have a large waiting room, three exam rooms and the front office. Our extensive library is available here, as well as toys and books for children. Administrative offices are located on the third floor.
