New Graduate CNM Fellowship

New Graduate CNM Fellowship posted 04/22/2023

The mission of The Midwife Center (TMC) is to promote wellness by providing exceptional, client-centered primary gynecological, pregnancy, and birthing care in southwestern Pennsylvania’s only independent birth center.

TMC has a 41-year history of providing birthing and GYN options for families in the Pittsburgh region. Our clientele is diverse and passionate about midwifery care. We offer a wide range of services that allow the midwifery model of care to thrive, including water birth, nitrous oxide for intrapartum and GYN procedures, limited point-of-care ultrasound in-house, intrauterine insemination, Centering Pregnancy, behavioral health & wellness services, and phlebotomy. Our center is committed to outreach to communities experiencing poor health outcomes to ensure our services are available to everyone in our city.

We seek a new graduate midwife with excellent beginner-level clinical skills who is responsible, flexible, and strongly desires to learn the art of community birth.

The goal of the fellowship is to provide a gentle entry into the profession of midwifery and community birth. We will accomplish this by mentoring the fellow with an extended orientation (approximately 4 months). Our practice of 7 midwives and 2 nurse practitioners is excited for another opportunity to guide a fellow through the challenges of new midwifery practice by offering a supportive environment where everyone wants a new midwife to succeed. We have supported 17 fellows since our organization began offering fellowship opportunities in 2010.

The salary for this position is $70,000, including a $1,000 sign-on bonus and a $4,000 completion bonus at the end of the fellowship. We offer benefits including three weeks of paid vacation, continuing education time, health insurance, dental insurance, short and long-term disability insurance, claims made malpractice insurance with tail coverage included, and cell phone reimbursement. Previous fellows have successfully qualified for deference for student loans. The schedule includes approximately one to two office days and 36-48 hours of first and second call per week.

Pittsburgh is a beautiful city with a rich cultural life, affordable cost of living, and easy access to outdoor recreation.
