The Midwife Center Reaches Milestone 10,000th Birth

On the evening of Thursday, March 19, 2026, The Midwife Center welcomed the 10,000th baby born with our practice since 1982. Harvey Allen Lantz was born to parents Caitlin and Eric Lantz in the Meadow birth suite at The Midwife Center. He arrived right on time, exactly on his due date, and was surrounded by his loving family and birth team - Jessie Holmquist, DNP, CNM, and Tahel Axel, RN.

In a conversation with WESA shortly after Harvey’s birth, Caitlin shared that, "The Midwife Center was great, so helpful and caring and loving...it was a great experience. And he came out so perfect. We were hoping for a water birth, and that’s what we got."

Every birth at The Midwife Center is special, and this one was a profound reminder of the thousands of families who have grown and thrived with The Midwife Center by their side since 1982.

The Midwife Center is now one of only a handful of birth centers in the US to reach the milestone of 10,000 births. As Christine Haas, Executive Director, shared, “The birth of the 10,000th baby at The Midwife Center is a wonderful milestone in the long and rich history of providing birth center services in the region.”

Each of these 10,000 births represents a transformative story for a family, and The Midwife Center has had the privilege of providing the safe, welcoming, homelike environment for these stories to unfold.

Emily McGahey, DM, MSN, CNM, FACNM, Clinical Director, reflected with WESA on the moments that matter most to her at The Midwife Center, “It’s often the quiet moments…like, you connect in the office and you realize somebody needed something that they struggled to say, and you can help provide it. Or it’s those moments where a baby comes after someone works so hard, and you get to witness the power of a human being…it’s truly an honor.”

The Midwife Center is committed to serving our community for generations to come. In recent years, we have expanded our services to meet community needs, including limited point of care ultrasounds, behavioral health services, postpartum and parent support groups, lactation consultations, vaccines, and primary gynecological appointments.

We are so grateful to Caitlin, as well as to Eric and their entire family, for letting us share in the Havery’s birth! We are also so grateful to everyone who has contributed to the 10,000th birth milestone, including all those who have provided care at The Midwife Center, who have trusted us with their care, and who have helped us thrive since 1982.
