Emily McGahey Named New Clinical Director

The Midwife Center for Birth & Women’s Health is pleased to announce that it recently promoted Emily McGahey, DM, MSN, CNM, FACNM to be the next Clinical Director of Western Pennsylvania’s only licensed and independent birth center. As the Clinical Director of The Midwife Center, Emily will oversee the clinical staff and functions of the Center while continuing to provide midwifery care to clients.

TMC Medical Director, Dr. Janice Anderson says, “Emily has shown exceptional professional growth during her tenure with us.  In addition to her advocacy on a state and national level, Emily has demonstrated a solid commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and sees midwifery, and our free-standing birth center in particular, as an avenue to that end. I am thrilled she has agreed to the position and look forward to working with her.”

Emily joined The Midwife Center in 2011 as the Center’s second Ruth Brexendorf Stifel Midwife Fellow and was hired as a staff midwife in 2012. In 2020, she was promoted to TMC’s Associate Clinical Director after serving as Acting Clinical Director for five months when TMC’s current Clinical Director, Ann McCarthy, MSN, CNM, was on a leave of absence. Dr. Emily earned her Doctorate in Midwifery from Jefferson University in 2020 and currently serves as Adjunct Faculty at Jefferson University. She was inducted in May 2021 as a Fellow of the American College of Nurse-Midwives. She currently serves on the Government Affairs Committee of the American College of Nurse Midwives and as a board member of the Pennsylvania American College of Nurse Midwives.

Emily says, "I am excited to take this step as the next Clinical Director of The Midwife Center. I am grateful that TMC believed in me as a new midwife ten years ago when I started as a fellow and I feel even more honored for the opportunity to continue to work at TMC in this new role at a place that I love so much. I look forward to the bright future of TMC!"
