The Midwife Center is pleased to welcome the following new staff members, Stephanie and Kandis!
Stephanie Curtiss joined The Midwife Center in May as a Client Service Associate. She assists clients with their appointments and other needs and is now a familiar face at the front desk. Stephanie comes to The Midwife Center with extensive experience in social services, including most recently from the Squirrel Hill Health Center where she was the Behavioral Health Practice Support Specialist.
Kandis Mason joined The Midwife Center this month as our new Community Engagement Coordinator. As our Community Engagement Coordinator, Kandis will represent The Midwife Center at community events and meetings, coordinate education and mentoring activities, and connect Midwife Center clients to helpful resources in the area. Prior to joining the center, Kandis worked as the Nutrition Services Assistant at WIC where she provided nutrition and breastfeeding education for pregnant and postpartum women, referrals, and engaged in community outreach. She has also worked for UPMC as a CMS grant administrator and nursing assistant. She has a graduate certificate and BA in public health.
The Midwife Center would like to congratulate the following former administrative staff members on making their next moves in their healthcare careers:
Sarah Sanders, our former Administrative Coordinator, worked for The Midwife Center for five years. She made many valuable contributions to the center including implementing efficiencies to our office systems, data collection and evaluation, supervising social work interns, as well as improving service delivery to our Spanish-speaking clients. While at the center, Sarah received her Masters in Public Health from the University of Pittsburgh. She will start in a PhD program in Public Health at Pitt this fall.
Ru Emmons, our former Client Service Manager, joined the center in 2015. Ru improved communication and staff development tools as well as interpretation services for our Spanish-speaking clients. While at the center, they went to school to become a Massage Therapist and gained their license earlier this year. We are thrilled that Ru will be providing massage therapy services at The Midwife Center starting in August 2018. If you are interested in scheduling a massage, please contact Ru at r.emmonsapt@gmail.com or 412.651.4737.
Renae Green, our former Community Engagement Coordinator, also helped clients in the front office during her time at The Midwife Center. As the center’s Community Engagement Coordinator, Renae connected the center to new community partners and resources, as well as implementing our new Information & Resource Counseling services. Renae recently became a Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) and is on her way to becoming an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). Renae is now the Project Coordinator of the new Healthy Start Center for Urban Breastfeeding.
Amber Thompson, our former Intake Coordinator, working at The Midwife Center since the beginning of the year, helping clients get started with their prenatal care. She is planning to focus her time on completing her Masters Degree in Organizational Development.
Although we will miss working with these wonderful colleagues, we are grateful for all of their contributions to The Midwife Center and look forward to keeping in touch and working with them in their new roles.
